IRCC extends Yukon Community Pilot Program through 2025

IRCC extends the duration of the Yukon Community Pilot offering an open work permit to permanent resident applicants until June 22, 2025.
This pilot program was initially launched for 3 years on January 22, 2020 and now has a new end date of June 22, 2025.
Family members are eligible to apply for an open work visa limited by location if the primary applicant is employed in at least 1 position in a TEER (Training, Education, Experience, and Responsibilities) category.

What is Yukon Community Pilot?
To meet the special demands of the labor force, the Yukon needs skilled workers.
The Yukon government plans to use the Yukon Community Pilot program to invite skilled workers.
Applicants who meet the eligibility requirements will be issued a location-based open work visa valid for two years.
The unique thing about the Yukon community pilot is that you can work for up to three different employers and you don’t need an LMIA.
Eligibility Criteria for Yukon Community Pilot
To be eligible for the work permit you must:
- You must have a valid permanent residency nomination from Yukon
- Have 2 or 3 eligible vacancies
- meet the general conditions for a work permitincluding having a signed letter of support from the government of Yukon.
Requirements for the job posting
The jobs you have been offered must meet each of these requirements:
- All 2-3 job openings must be in the participating Yukon community.
- They must work a total of at least 30 hours per week in non-seasonal occupation.
- Wage must be at least equal to or greater than the Yukon minimum wage of $16.77 per hour.
- Previous work of the applicant must demonstrate his ability to perform the responsibilities of the positions offered.
Document required to apply
A copy of the letter of nomination from the Government of Yukon confirming that you have been nominated for permanent residency.
A letter of support from the Yukon government stating that the employers offering you employment need you to start working in the community as soon as possible and that the job openings are real.
The job offer document should contain the details of the job proposals, such as names of the employers, occupation, number of hours and places of employment.

What is Yukon known for?

The highest peak in Canada, Mount Logan (5959 m), is located in Yukon, the largest non-volcanic mountain in the world with a base 20 km long and 5 km wide.
Yukon has the longest spectacular Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis) show lasting from mid-August to mid-April. The best time to visit and enjoy these magical Northern Lights is between November and March when the evenings are long and black.
