Tesla protests held in Canada as part of ‘global day of action’ against Elon Musk

Hundreds of protests are set to take place at Tesla showrooms worldwide this Saturday, with multiple demonstrations planned across Canada. The event, known as the Tesla Takedown’s Global Day of Action, is organized by individuals who are opposed to the involvement of Tesla CEO Elon Musk in the Trump administration.

In Canada, protests are expected to occur in cities such as Ottawa, Montreal, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, and Halifax, with four additional protests scheduled in B.C.’s Lower Mainland over the weekend. Demonstrators are calling on individuals to sell their Tesla vehicles and divest any stock they may hold in the company.

Authorities in Vancouver have announced plans to deploy over 130 extra officers to maintain order at the protests. This comes as concerns grow over potential disruptions and safety issues.

Elon Musk has faced criticism for his ties to the U.S. government, including his support for the far-right Alternative for Germany party and his involvement in laying off thousands of federal workers. Additionally, he has been accused of making a gesture during a Trump inauguration rally that resembled a Nazi salute.

In Canada, Musk has come under fire for his support of Trump’s proposal to make Canada the 51st U.S. state and for referring to then-Prime Minister Justin Trudeau as the country’s “governor” in a social media exchange earlier this year. An online petition calling for Musk to be stripped of his Canadian citizenship has garnered over 375,000 signatures, accusing him of actions that are against the national interests of Canada.

Tesla dealerships in Canada have also been targeted, with incidents of vandalism reported. In Montreal, paint was sprayed on the exterior of one location, while 80 vehicles were scratched at a lot in Hamilton. The Vancouver International Auto Show recently banned Tesla from participating due to concerns about safety.
