Education experts applaud Trump signing order to begin dismantling DoEd

President Donald Trump made headlines recently with the signing of an executive order that dismantles the Education Department, a move that has been praised by education experts. The order aims to return control of education issues back to the states, a decision that has been met with both support and criticism.

Nicole Neily, President and Founder of Parents Defending Education (PDE), commended Trump for taking a bold step towards reevaluating the current education system in the United States. Neily stated that the system has failed American children and has only served to benefit bureaucrats and activists. She believes that it is time for a radical rethink of how education is administered in the country.

Tommy Schultz, CEO of the American Federation for Children, also expressed support for the executive order, stating that it is time for Congress to send school choice legislation to Trump’s desk. This move, according to Schultz, will fulfill Trump’s promises to voters and bring school choice to every state.

Moms for Liberty, a pro-parent political advocacy group, sees this as an opportunity to empower parents and local communities to take charge of education decisions. They believe that this shift away from Washington bureaucracy will lead to a brighter future for learning.

The White House cited low testing averages among students as evidence of the Education Department’s ineffectiveness in improving education. The National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) scores were highlighted as a national crisis that needs to be addressed urgently.

Despite the dismantling of the department, certain key programs such as Title I funding, resources for students with disabilities, and Pell Grants will be preserved. Trump’s executive order kick-starts the process of disassembling the department, but complete abolition would require Congressional legislation.

Overall, the move to dismantle the Education Department has sparked a mix of reactions from various stakeholders in the education sector. While some see it as a positive step towards empowering states and communities, others are concerned about the potential consequences of such a significant change. The future of education in the United States remains uncertain as Congress and the Trump administration work towards implementing these changes.
