Karen Hudson steps down as acting director of N.S. Public Prosecution Service
HALIFAX, N.S. — Karen Hudson, K.C. has resigned as acting director of the Nova Scotia Public Prosecution Service due to health reasons.
Attorney General and Justice Minister Brad Johns accepted her resignation on Nov. 23.
Hudson, formerly the executive director of Nova Scotia Legal Aid, took on the roles of deputy attorney general and deputy minister of justice in 2016.
Returning from retirement, she assumed the position of acting director of the prosecution service in July.
In response to Hudson’s departure, Eric Ralph (Rick) Woodburn, K.C., a seasoned Crown attorney with the Public Prosecution Service, has stepped into the role of acting director for a six-month term, effective Thursday, Nov. 23.
The province has enlisted Royer Thompson to initiate a national search for a permanent prosecution service director, expected to launch in the coming weeks.
