Know how New Canada H1B Open Work Permit Processing works

IRCC has updated full details of the new Canada H1B Open Work Permit for up to 3 years, which opened for applications on July 16, 2023.
The duration of this open work permit depends on the expiry of the passport. If your passport expires within three years, your work permit will also expire at the same time. After that, no extension is possible.
Persons in possession of a valid H-1B visa for special occupations who currently live in the United States are eligible.
As we know there is a set quota of 10,000 for primary applicants but there is no limit for dependents.
IRCC processing fee is $155 per person plus you may need to provide biometrics which usually cost $85.
Spouses or common law partner or dependent children are considered dependent family members.

These family members can accompany the main applicant on a visitor visa, study permit or work permit.
IRCC processing fees ($100 – $155 per person) and biometric fees ($85 for each) are charged additionally and vary depending on the type of application submitted by the family members.
If the main applicant has been outside the United States for at least 6 months in a row in the past 1 year, they will need an Immigration Medical Examination (IME).

Canada H1B open work permit processing time
This new Canada H1B open work permit has a processing time of 6 weeks after you submit a complete application.
To provide more context, IRCC processing times typically average for 80% of completed requests.
This means that the processing of your application can take less than 6 weeks or even longer.
IRCC has clearly stated that they will reject the incomplete applications without processing them.
Biometrics including fingerprints and photo is required, so you should make an appointment as soon as possible to avoid processing delays.

Complete applications will be reviewed to verify that the primary applicant is not eligible for Canada.

During processing, IRCC may ask applicants for an interview or to send more information or documents.
How to Check Canada H1B Work Permit Application Status
After submitting the complete application for Canada H1B open work permit, applicants must create an online account on IRCCs”Your app status tracker.”
Unique Client Identifier (UCI) and applicant number are required to sign up for this application status tracker.
Primary applicants or their representative (or advisors/lawyers) are eligible to create an account to check the status of the application.
After the H1B Canada work permit is approved
Approved applicants will receive a letter of approval stating that they are authorized to work in Canada.
This letter is called the introduction gate letter.
When approved applicants travel to enter Canada, they must present this letter at the port of entry.
However, this letter is not your official work permit. The actual work permit is issued at the Canadian port of entry on the same day that approved applicants enter Canada.
This work permit will contain the full conditions and duration of this new work permit.
