Leftist group appears to be targeting critical swing districts to grow Trump resistance

Progressive group “Indivisible” is making waves in the political scene once again, this time setting their sights on the key congressional swing district of New York’s 17th District. With primary races already underway for the 2026 Midterm elections, the group is backing progressive Democrat Beth Davidson in her bid to unseat Republican Rep. Mike Lawler.
Davidson, a Rockland County legislator, has deep ties to Indivisible, with her social media posts showcasing her support for the group and attendance at their events. Indivisible has been active in organizing protests against Lawler, with local chapters helping to mobilize supporters for demonstrations at his town hall events. Davidson herself has been vocal in her criticism of Lawler, accusing him of staying silent on important issues affecting the community.
Indivisible’s involvement in the race has not gone unnoticed, with the National Republican Congressional Committee accusing the group of “infiltrating” congressional races to undermine President Trump’s agenda. The group, founded in response to Trump’s election in 2016, has a history of disruptive tactics, including protests at Tesla dealerships and calls to defund the police.
Davidson’s association with Indivisible has raised concerns, especially in light of the group’s controversial actions in the past. One protest organized by Indivisible Rockland featured imagery that was widely condemned as anti-Semitic, prompting Davidson to denounce the imagery and distance herself from the group’s tactics. Lawler’s campaign has called on Davidson to denounce Indivisible and their dangerous rhetoric.
Despite the controversy surrounding Indivisible’s involvement in the race, Davidson has received endorsements from progressive leaders like Mondaire Jones, who previously held Lawler’s seat. The race for NY-17 is shaping up to be a closely watched contest, with the Cook Political Report ranking it as “Lean Republican.”
As the campaign heats up, both candidates are gearing up for a tough fight in one of the most critical swing districts in the country. With the balance of power in Congress at stake, the race for NY-17 will undoubtedly be one to watch in the coming months.
