Zellers to make a comeback with a new location that will be opened in Edmonton next week

Zellers, the iconic Canadian department store, is set to make a comeback with the opening of its first new location in Edmonton next week. The store will be situated in Londonderry Mall, taking over the space previously occupied by Hudson’s Bay.
According to landlord Henry Zavriyev, the decision to bring Zellers back was met with enthusiasm from retailers interested in the vacant space left by Hudson’s Bay. The Montreal-based real estate developer Leyad, which owns the mall, sees this as an opportunity to revitalize the shopping experience for Edmonton residents.
The new Zellers store will occupy a 60,000 square foot space on two floors, offering a range of clothing and home goods. A “soft launch” is planned for Monday, with plans to expand the merchandise selection in the future.
The resurgence of Zellers comes after the branding was sold off during Hudson’s Bay liquidation. The rights to Zellers, including the iconic mascot Zeddy Bear, were acquired by Les Ailes de la Mode Inc., a Quebec retailer owned by Business Mogul Isaac Benitah.
While the Edmonton location is the first to open under the new ownership, Zavriyev hinted at potential future expansions. He expressed confidence in the store’s success, citing a strong demand for Canadian brands among shoppers.
The return of Zellers marks a nostalgic moment for many Canadians who grew up shopping at the beloved department store. With a fresh perspective and revamped offerings, the new Zellers is poised to capture the hearts of a new generation of shoppers.
Stay tuned for the grand opening of Zellers in Edmonton, where the Zeddy Teddybear will once again welcome customers with open arms.
