At TIFF, Canadian filmmakers Grace Glowicki and Ben Petrie are the only loved ones who are alive

Toronto filmmakers Grace Glowicki and Ben Petrie are set to showcase their latest projects at the Toronto International Film Festival next month. Their films, “Dead Lover” and “Honey Bunch,” have already made waves at Sundance and Berlin, respectively.
Glowicki and Petrie have a unique partnership that transcends the typical filmmaker dynamic. They have pushed the boundaries of their collaboration to create provocative and unsettling works that delve into the darker aspects of human relationships.
“Dead Lover” follows the story of an amorous gravedigger from the 17th century who becomes infatuated with a local Lothario, played by Petrie. When tragedy strikes, only a severed finger remains to fulfill the gravedigger’s desires. Meanwhile, “Honey Bunch” explores the twisted relationship between a couple plagued by paranoia, experimental surgery, and the looming presence of actor Jason Isaacs.
Despite the challenging subject matter of their films, Glowicki and Petrie have found a balance in their partnership. They have learned to separate their personal and professional lives, maintaining a healthy distance to avoid codependency.
As they prepare for the premiere of their films at TIFF, Glowicki and Petrie are also expecting their first child. This new chapter in their lives adds another layer of complexity to their already dynamic relationship.
While their films may push the boundaries of conventional cinema, Glowicki and Petrie remain focused on their craft and aspire to work on larger projects in the future. But for now, they are content with the success of their current endeavors and the anticipation of what lies ahead.
“Dead Lover” will screen at TIFF on September 13 and 14, while “Honey Bunch” will be shown on September 10 and 13. For more information, visit tiff.net.
