Lunenburg County man sent to trial on charges from July 2022 crash

A Lunenburg County man has been committed to stand trial in Nova Scotia Supreme Court on three charges, including two counts of dangerous driving causing death, from a fatal crash on Highway 103 last summer.

Trevor John Heisler, 30, of Conquerall Mills was allegedly driving a stolen pickup truck that collided head-on with a sport utility vehicle in Martins River, Lunenburg County, on July 27, 2022.

The occupants of the SUV, Alan Boutilier, 63, and his wife Shelley Boutilier, 60, of Bayswater, were pronounced dead at the scene. Heisler was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The truck had been reported stolen from a business in Cookville, outside Bridgewater, about 10 minutes before the collision occurred.

Police announced the next day that charges had been laid against Heisler. The other charge was stealing a motor vehicle.

Last fall, Heisler elected to be tried in Supreme Court by a judge alone and requested a preliminary inquiry in Bridgewater provincial court.

A three-day inquiry was held this month, with Judge Catherine Benton sending Heisler on to Supreme Court for trial.

Heisler, who has not applied for bail, will appear in Supreme Court in Bridgewater on Sept. 26 to enter pleas and set trial dates.
