MacKay Bridge closed this weekend to allow toll booths to be removed

The A. Murray MacKay Bridge in Halifax will be temporarily closed this weekend to facilitate the removal of the toll booth plaza. According to Halifax Harbour Bridges, the closure will commence on Friday at 7 p.m. and is expected to last until Monday at 5:30 a.m.

Motorists are advised to plan their routes in advance and seek alternate paths during this period. Commercial vehicle drivers are reminded that the Angus L. Macdonald Bridge is off-limits to them. Additional patrols will be deployed to identify and redirect unauthorized vehicles.

Due to the closure, traffic congestion is anticipated to increase over the weekend. To alleviate some of the congestion, Halifax Harbour Bridges will implement lane adjustments on the three-lane Macdonald Bridge to improve traffic flow.

While further work is necessary, it is anticipated that another weekend closure will not be required for at least a month. It is worth noting that tolls on both harbour bridges were eliminated by the provincial government earlier this month.

The A. Murray MacKay Bridge, which spans Halifax Harbour, has been in operation since July 1970. The closure this weekend is a crucial step in the ongoing efforts to enhance the infrastructure and streamline traffic operations in the area.
