Magic the Gathering: The One Ring card found in Toronto

A Toronto man says he is in “complete disbelief” after finding an extremely rare and extremely valuable collector’s card.

The One Ring is a collectible card created for the tabletop, deckbuilding game “Magic: The Gathering” (MTG), as part of the recently released collection in honor of the series “The Lord of the Rings”..

What makes this particular card so special – the one trading card that arguably rules them all – is that it is the only one to be printed in the Black Speech of Sauron using Tengwar letterformsone of JRR Tolkien’s fictional languages ​​in the hit series.

“There’s only one, this is something very new for Magic: The Gathering,” said Jeff MacDougall, manager of 401 gamestold NEWSTALK1010.

Gaming companies around the world have publicly announced bounties to become the bearers of The One Ring. WHO FOUND THE CARD?

The owner of the card has chosen to remain anonymous, but in a statement to CTV News Toronto, provided by marketing and PR firm Notable Group, they said the person is a cashier and forklift driver who lives in Toronto.

The elusive trading card carrier said he has been playing MTG since he was a kid.

While he kicked the hobby when he went to college, he says he picked it up again a few years ago.

He said he had reserved the collector’s box and would pick it up on June 17.

“But for some reason I woke up early on June 16 and decided to go to the store when it opened,” the statement reads. Face-to-face games in Toronto.

“I am happy everywhere. I’m really glad it’s out in the open because it’s been several weeks since we sort of had to keep it a secret.

‘YOU CAN JUST FEEL ITS MEANING’

Few knew that The One Ring was drawn in mid-June, inclusive MAX cards and collectibles co-owner James Hammond, who told CTV News Toronto that he found out the next day through the card owner’s cousin, as he is a regular at the store.

“We just advised him on the next steps to legal representation, and then we took a step back and just looked at all the stories,” he said.

Everyone else found out on June 30, after the authentication was announced.

Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA), the largest third-party rating service according to its website, announced that it rated the card that day.

“The One Ring has been found, verified and rules them all,” PSA said in a tweet.

The card was rated a Mint 9which is the second highest on the grading scale, meaning it is in excellent condition and has only minor flaws, such as a minor misprint for example.

“Counterfeits were released on the internet, so no one would have believed it was real without authentication,” said the card’s owner. “When you see it and hold it, you just feel its meaning.”

He says he intends to sell the card, adding that he is still receiving and reviewing offers.

Before The One Ring, Black Lotus was the most expensive Magic card, one of which was purchased by musician Post Malone for $800,000.

“It’s amazing to see how much joy and wonder this has brought to others in the community,” said the card’s owner.
