Man, 83, dead after being struck by car in Antigonish

One man is dead after being struck by a car in Antigonish over the supper hour Tuesday.

RCMP spokesman Cpl. Chris Marshall said the 83-year-old victim was on James Street when he was struck by a car at about 5:45 p.m.

He said the man was in a crosswalk at the time, but witnesses at the scene said the overhead lights did not appear to be active

 The was rushed to hospital but later died of his injuries.

The 67-year-old man driving the car was not injured. Marshall said no tickets had been issued as of Wednesday morning, and the investigation is continuing.

James Street was closed for several hours while an RCMP collision reconstructionist worked at the scene, but has since reopened.
