Man arrested after allegedly setting fire to Colchester County house with woman inside

A Colchester County man is in custody after allegedly setting fire to a home during a dispute with a woman inside.

RCMP and firefighters were called to a home on Wittenberg Road in Wittenberg, 11 km east of Stewiacke, at about 6 p.m. Thursday.

Cpl.  Chris Marshall said police were told that there was a dispute between the man and woman when the man allegedly poured an accelerant inside the home and set it ablaze.

“Both the man and woman escaped the home uninjured, and the man was arrested at the scene when we arrived,” Marshall said.

Firefighters from several area departments were called to the scene, but the house was heavily damaged

Edward Kenneth Castle, 46, of Wittenburg, has been charged with arson, mischief and breach of probation.

He will remain in custody until a scheduled bail hearing Wednesday in Truro provincial court.

The investigation is continuing.
