Man charged with assault of Broomfield Police officers in connection to a standoff last week

The recent incident involving a standoff with Broomfield Police at a local hotel has resulted in assault charges being filed against a man named Brett Carlini. The 28-year-old is facing multiple counts of first-degree assault for threatening a peace officer with a weapon, as well as one count of second-degree assault on a peace officer. The charges were announced by the 17th Judicial District Attorney’s office, which serves Adams and Broomfield counties.
The incident unfolded at the WoodSpring Suites on Edgeview Drive on August 28, when police responded to reports of a man wanted on several felony violent crime warrants. Upon attempting to arrest the suspect, he threw a knife at officers, injuring one of them. The man then barricaded himself in a hotel room, leading to the evacuation of the premises. Following the deployment of gas by the SWAT team, Carlini was taken into custody without further incident.
One officer sustained non-life-threatening injuries from the altercation, while another officer was bitten by Carlini’s dog and subsequently treated at a local hospital before being released. The dog is now under the care of Broomfield Animal Services.
Carlini is scheduled to appear in court on September 25 at 1:30 p.m. for his next hearing. The swift response by law enforcement helped ensure the safety of everyone involved in the incident.
