Man charged with camping assault gets bail in Shubenacadie Provincial Court

A man charged with a weekend attack at a campsite near Shubenacadie that sent a woman to hospital with life-threatening injuries was released on bail on Monday with permission from the Crown.
East Hants RCMP and paramedics responded to a report of a disturbance at Whispering Winds Family Campground in Rines Creek on Saturday at approximately 2:15 a.m.
A press release from the RCMP says officers have found a seriously injured woman, a 23-year-old from Dartmouth, who has been transported to hospital.
A 26-year-old man was arrested at the scene and charged with aggravated assault.
RCMP said the victim and suspect were staying in a motorhome with two other adults. An argument between the victim and the suspect turned violent, police said.
Lionel Wade Thompson of East Preston was held until Monday when he appeared before Shubenacadie Provincial Court.
Judge Paul Scovil released Thompson on terms negotiated by counsel. The release order, with no financial obligation, requires Thompson to have no contact with the alleged victim or two other women who camped with them and not be within 80 feet of their homes, schools or workplaces.
Thompson must also stay away from the campsite and must not own any guns.
The indictment will return to court on July 24 for election and plea.
