Max Scherzer strikes out 4 in 2 innings of his Blue Jays’ spring debut

Max Scherzer made an impressive spring training debut for the Toronto Blue Jays as they secured a 3-2 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals in Dunedin, Fla. The 40-year-old veteran pitcher, who recently signed a one-year, $15.5 million contract with Toronto, showed his prowess on the mound by striking out four of the six batters he faced. Despite giving up an early run in the first inning to the Cardinals, Scherzer demonstrated why he is a three-time Cy Young Award winner.

The Blue Jays got a taste of Scherzer’s unique personality during the game, as he declined high-fives from his teammates when he returned to the dugout after each inning. Manager John Schneider joked about the team learning quickly that Scherzer prefers to keep to himself during games.

In relief of Scherzer, Bowden Francis took the mound and gave up a solo home run to the Cardinals, allowing them to take a 2-0 lead. However, the Blue Jays fought back with Alejandro Kirk driving in a run in the third inning. Toronto tied the score in the fourth inning thanks to a single from Andres Gimenez. Michael Stefanic’s RBI single in the sixth inning gave the Blue Jays the lead, and they held on for the win.

The game wasn’t without its share of drama, as outfielder Joey Loperfido suffered an injury after crashing into the wall while trying to field a hit. However, it was later reported that Loperfido did not display any concussion symptoms and should be fine.

Overall, it was a successful outing for the Blue Jays, who improved their record to 3-0 in spring training. They will look to continue their winning streak as they face off against the Philadelphia Phillies in their next game. Max Scherzer’s solid performance on the mound provided a glimpse of what he brings to the team, and fans are eager to see more of his skills as the season progresses.
