US Election 2024

New poll reveals which Trump policies Americans love and hate

Americans are giving mixed reviews to some of the early actions taken by President Donald Trump during the opening weeks of his second administration. While some of his executive orders have received a big thumbs up from the public, others have been met with strong opposition.

Since returning to the White House on Jan. 20, Trump has signed a total of 63 executive orders, a record-breaking number that far surpasses the rate of any of his predecessors during their first weeks in office. One of the most popular actions taken by Trump, according to a recent Marquette Law School Poll national survey, is his executive order mandating that the federal government only recognize two sexes – male and female.

The order, which was signed by Trump just hours after his inauguration, states that it will defend women’s rights and protect freedom of conscience by using clear and accurate language and policies that recognize women as biologically female and men as biologically male. The survey indicates that 63% of adults nationwide support this move, while 37% oppose it.

Another popular action taken by Trump is his decision to expand oil and gas production, with 6 in 10 Americans expressing their support for this move. Additionally, the majority of respondents also favor deporting immigrants who entered the U.S. illegally and declaring a national emergency at the southern border with Mexico due to migrant crossings.

However, not all of Trump’s actions have been well-received by the public. The survey found that 57% of respondents oppose deporting immigrants who have resided in the United States illegally for a number of years, but who have jobs and no criminal record. Additionally, Trump’s decision to pardon or commute the sentences of nearly all the supporters who attacked the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, was met with strong opposition, with 65% of respondents expressing their disapproval.

Furthermore, Trump’s repeated declarations that the U.S. will take back the Panama Canal and his renaming of the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America have also been met with significant opposition. According to the poll, 71% of adults nationwide oppose the renaming of the Gulf of Mexico, with only 57% of Republicans supporting the move.

Overall, the Marquette Law School Poll indicates that Trump starts his second term with a 48% approval rating and a 52% disapproval rating. The survey also highlights the massive partisan divide, with approval closely related to partisanship, as 89% of Republicans approve of Trump, compared to 37% of independents and 9% of Democrats.

In conclusion, Trump’s early actions in his second administration have received a mix of support and opposition from the American public. While some of his executive orders have been popular, others have faced strong criticism, highlighting the divisive nature of his presidency.
