Minnesota officials thank police after capture of shooting suspect

Minnesota officials and law enforcement officers were able to capture Vance Boelter, the suspect accused of shooting two Minnesota state lawmakers, after a grueling two-day manhunt. House Speaker Lisa Demuth expressed her relief on social media, stating that she was grateful for the suspect’s capture and that justice would now be served.

Governor Tim Walz also expressed his gratitude to the more than 20 agencies who worked together to apprehend Boelter. He emphasized the importance of not becoming desensitized to violence and urged the community to come together with humility, grace, and civility in the face of tragedy.

Boelter, 57, allegedly killed Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman and her husband, Mark, in their Brooklyn Park home before attacking State Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, in a related incident. Walz stressed the need for unity in the country and called for the community to acknowledge the pain and grief experienced by the victims’ families.

Despite the tragic events, Walz commended law enforcement officers for their courage and professionalism in apprehending Boelter. He assured the public that fear would not prevail as the community heals from the violence.

U.S. Sen. Amy Klombuchar also thanked law enforcement officers for their heroic efforts in tracking down the suspect. The collaborative work of multiple agencies and officials led to Boelter’s arrest, bringing closure to the community and allowing justice to be served.

The tragic events underscore the need for unity and civility in the face of violence. By coming together and supporting one another, the community can begin to heal and move forward from this devastating ordeal.
