Missing dog returns to family on Christmas Eve, rings doorbell

Athena’s Christmas Miracle: Lost Dog Returns Home in Time for the Holidays
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. –
After a nearly weeklong search, Athena, a four-year-old German Shepherd and Husky mix, found her way back to her Florida family just in time for Christmas Eve, and she even rang the doorbell to announce her return.
The heartwarming reunion came after Athena had escaped her home in Green Cove Springs, Florida, on December 15, leaving her owner, Brooke Comer, in a state of panic. The day of her disappearance, Comer’s family had received a message from a neighbor with a picture of Athena outside the house, sparking a frantic search effort.
Despite numerous alerts and sightings from community members in nearby towns, Athena remained elusive, covering nearly a 32-kilometer roundtrip during her time away. Each sighting brought hope and disappointment for Comer and her family as they tirelessly searched for their beloved pet.
The ordeal took a surprising turn in the early hours of Christmas Eve when Comer received a Ring video notification from her doorbell camera. To her astonishment, the footage captured Athena jumping at the door and ringing the doorbell herself, signaling her return. As soon as the door opened, Athena rushed inside to greet her family and play with her toys before settling down for some well-deserved rest.
Reflecting on the emotional rollercoaster of the past week, Comer expressed gratitude for the support and efforts of neighbors and the wider community in helping reunite her with Athena. Plans were already in motion to ensure Athena’s well-being, including a full examination, flea and tick treatments, and the addition of a microchip for added security.
Athena’s miraculous homecoming serves as a reminder of the power of community and the unwavering bond between pets and their families, especially during the holiday season.
