Missing N.S. children were seen in public day before disappearance: police

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) have provided new information regarding the disappearance of two children in Nova Scotia’s Pictou County. Lilly Sullivan, 6, and her brother Jack Sullivan, 4, were reported missing on May 2 after allegedly wandering away from their home in Lansdowne Station, a remote area located about 140 kilometers northeast of Halifax.

Following their disappearance, an extensive six-day search operation was launched, covering 5.5 square kilometers of dense woods with the assistance of over 160 search and rescue officials, dogs, helicopters, and drones. Despite the efforts, the siblings remained missing, prompting underwater recovery teams to search bodies of water in the area. Subsequent search and rescue operations were conducted around the children’s home on Gairloch Road in the weeks that followed.

In a recent development, RCMP confirmed that Lilly and Jack were seen in public with family members on May 1, the day before they went missing. The children’s stepfather, Daniel Martell, explained that the siblings were at home on May 1 and 2 due to illness, as well as on April 30 for a scheduled professional development day at their school.

Authorities have collected hours of video footage from the vicinity of Lansdowne Station as part of their investigation. They are now requesting dashcam footage or video recordings from individuals who were along Gairloch Road between April 28 and May 2 to aid in the search for Lilly and Jack.

Despite receiving over 355 tips and conducting interviews with more than 50 individuals, the RCMP emphasized that the investigation remains ongoing and details cannot be disclosed at this time. Cpl. Sandy Matharu of the Northeast Nova RCMP Major Crime Unit stated, “We understand people’s desire for answers and updates. However, as this is an active investigation, we’re unable to discuss details of our ongoing work.”
