NBA news: James Harden moves to No. 2 on career 3-point list

James Harden Surpasses Ray Allen to Claim Second Spot in 3-Pointers
INGLEWOOD, Calif. – James Harden has made history by securing the second spot in the NBA’s all-time 3-pointers list, surpassing the legendary Ray Allen.
The Los Angeles Clippers star achieved this remarkable feat by sinking his 2,974th 3-pointer during a game against the Utah Jazz on Sunday night.
Harden expressed his gratitude for the accomplishment, stating, “It’s an unbelievable accomplishment and just a testament to the work that I’ve been putting in. As I get older and chip away at an unbelievable career, you start to accomplish things like that and I don’t ever want to take it for granted.”
The historic shot came from the right wing with 6:09 left in the first quarter of the game. Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors currently holds the top spot on the list with 3,782 3-pointers.
Harden acknowledged Curry’s dominance in 3-point shooting, saying, “I’m one of the most confident guys we have in this league, but no, I probably won’t catch Steph, and I don’t think anybody will, honestly.”
Despite his milestone, Harden remained focused on the game, contributing 20 points, 11 assists, and six rebounds during the matchup.
Allen achieved his 2,973 3-pointers in 1,300 games, while Harden surpassed him in just 1,086 games.
Clippers coach Tyronn Lue praised both Harden and Allen, recognizing them as “extraordinary shooters.”
Harden joins an elite group of players in NBA history who have made 300 3-pointers in a season, with his highest being 378 in 2018-19.
Lue commended Harden’s versatility as a scorer, highlighting his ability to make tough shots from various positions on the court.
In addition to his 3-point prowess, Harden also ranks 15th in career points and 13th in assists in NBA history. LeBron James is the only other player to appear in the top 15 in all three categories.
Allen previously held the record for the most 3-pointers made, surpassing Reggie Miller before Curry claimed the top spot in the 2021-22 season.
