More than $1 million in contraband seized at Springhill Institution in Nova Scotia

SPRINGHILL, NS — Corrections officers intercepted and seized more than $1.15 million in contraband and other unauthorized items entering the Springhill Institution in May.

Correctional Services Canada (CSC) said items such as crystal methamphetamine, computer chips, cell phone accessories, Wi-Fi detection devices, SD cards and USB charging cables have been seized by staff at the medium-security facility.

CSC said it is increasing measures against illegal contraband entering correctional facilities.

Anyone who suspects illegal smuggling activity at CSC facilities is asked to call the toll-free, anonymous tip line at 1-866-780-3784.
