More than 210K Nova Scotians voted in advance polls over Easter weekend

Preliminary estimates from Elections Canada reveal that a total of 210,030 eligible Nova Scotians participated in the advance polls for the upcoming federal election. This marks a significant 31 per cent increase in early ballots compared to the previous federal election in 2021, where 160,179 Nova Scotians cast their votes early.

The surge in early voting is part of a national trend, as more than seven million Canadians across the country voted over the recent long weekend, setting a new record for the highest number of advance polls in Canadian history. In Nova Scotia specifically, 26 per cent of eligible voters have already cast their ballots ahead of election day, which is set for April 28.

The increased turnout in advance polls could potentially indicate a higher overall voter turnout for the federal election in Nova Scotia. This level of civic engagement is encouraging to see, as it reflects a strong commitment to participating in the democratic process and having a say in the future direction of the country.

As the countdown to election day continues, it will be interesting to see how the early voting numbers translate into overall voter turnout and the eventual outcome of the federal election in Nova Scotia. Stay tuned for more updates as the campaign unfolds.
