Mother, 2 children walking in NYC killed by woman driving with suspended license: police
A tragic accident in Brooklyn has left a mother and her two young daughters dead after they were struck by a woman driving with a suspended license. The incident occurred in the Midwood neighborhood of Brooklyn at around 1 p.m. on Saturday.
New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch described the incident as a “horrific tragedy” caused by someone who should not have been on the road. The driver, identified as Miriam Yarimi, 32, crashed her Audi into a Toyota Camry carrying a rideshare driver and another mother with three children before hitting the mother and her three kids in a crosswalk. The Audi then overturned in the collision.
Tragically, the 35-year-old mother and her two daughters, aged 6 and 8, were pronounced dead at the scene. The mother’s third child, a 4-year-old boy, was rushed to Maimonides Medical Center in critical condition. The rideshare driver, a 62-year-old man, was taken to Coney Island Hospital in stable condition, along with his passengers, a mother and three children with minor injuries.
Miriam Yarimi was extricated from her car by the fire department and taken to NYU Langone Hospital in Brooklyn, where she is currently in stable condition. Investigators are still determining the cause of the crash, including whether speed or running a red light were factors.
Mayor Eric Adams referred to the incident as a “tragedy of Shakespearean proportion” during a news conference, expressing his deep concern and condolences to the families involved. He emphasized the impact on the close-knit community and promised to visit the affected family at the hospital.
