Reports coming in from the Lake Louise RCMP indicate that a group of hikers has been caught in a devastating rock slide north of Lake Louise. The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m. in the Bow Lake/Bow Glacier Falls area, resulting in serious injuries and potentially multiple fatalities.
Due to the lack of cell service in the remote area, obtaining precise details has proven to be challenging. However, authorities including Parks Canada, the Lake Louise fire department, STARS Air Ambulance, and the RCMP are all mobilizing to access the scene and provide assistance.
Parks Canada has confirmed that the rock slide occurred near Bow Glacier Falls in Banff National Park, approximately 37 kilometers north of Lake Louise along the Icefields Parkway. As a result, temporary closures are expected on the highway near Bow Lake, and visitors are urged to avoid the area to allow emergency teams to respond effectively.
Expressing her concern, Edmonton Centre MP and Minister of Emergency Management Eleanor Olszewski took to social media to offer her support for those impacted by the tragic event. She commended the efforts of Parks Canada, STARS air ambulance, and all first responders involved in the emergency response.
