US Election 2024

GOP group dedicated to electing Republicans at state level spotlight record fundraising haul

The Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC) is celebrating a successful first quarter of fundraising in 2025, with a combined total of $13 million raised alongside its strategic partner, the State Government Leadership Foundation. This marks their best-ever first-quarter fundraising achievement and follows a historic 2023-2024 election cycle where the two groups raised a total of $102 million.

Highlighting their grassroots support, the RSLC revealed that they received over $2.2 million in online donations, with 5,130 new online donors contributing an average of $24.68 each. RSLC President Edith Jorge-Tuñón emphasized the significance of this record-breaking fundraising milestone, attributing it to the enthusiasm surrounding the results Republicans have achieved at the state level. However, she also cautioned against complacency, noting that Democrats are poised to invest heavily in down-ballot races in preparation for the 2025-2026 cycle.

In the 2024 elections, two legislative chambers shifted control in favor of the Republicans, with Minnesota’s House moving from Democratic control to a tie, and Michigan’s House flipping from Democratic to GOP control. According to the National Conference on State Legislatures, Republicans currently hold the majority in 58 of the nation’s 98 state legislative chambers, with Democrats in control of 38 chambers and two chambers divided.

On the state level, Republicans maintain control of 28 state legislatures, compared to 18 controlled by Democrats and three with divided control. Additionally, Republicans hold total control (majority in both chambers and the governor’s office) in 23 states, while Democrats have control in 15 states, with 11 states having a divided government.

As the political landscape continues to evolve, both parties are gearing up for the upcoming election cycles, with fundraising efforts playing a crucial role in shaping the outcomes. The RSLC’s impressive fundraising performance sets the stage for a competitive political environment in the months ahead, as Republicans and Democrats vie for control at the state level.
