Nancy Pelosi urging senators to oppose Trump spending bill

House Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi and several key Democrats are urging Senate Democrats to avoid a government shutdown by opposing a must-pass spending bill on the Senate floor today. Pelosi, a prominent Democrat from San Francisco, is advocating for a shorter-term funding extension to allow for more negotiation time.
The Senate is set to vote on a crucial stopgap government spending bill, known as a continuing resolution (CR), to prevent a partial shutdown as the deadline approaches. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, on the other hand, plans to support the House-passed CR to prevent giving President Donald Trump and Republicans an advantage.
Pelosi criticized the bill as presenting a false choice between a shutdown and a damaging assault on working families. She commended House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and House Democrats for opposing the bill and urged Senate Democrats to listen to Appropriations leaders Rosa DeLauro and Patty Murray for a better solution.
Democratic Governor JB Pritzker of Illinois, another influential Democrat, is also urging Senate Democrats to reject the bill. He emphasized the need to stop giving power to Trump and Musk and criticized congressional Republicans for failing to keep Trump’s power in check.
Pritzker called for Democrats to use their power to promote bipartisanship and create a budget that reflects shared priorities. He urged a no vote on the Continuing Resolution to avoid a shutdown and push for a better solution.
The Democrats are facing pressure to act and avoid a government shutdown, with key figures like Pelosi, Schumer, Jeffries, DeLauro, Murray, and Pritzker advocating for a more strategic approach to government funding. The decision on the spending bill will have far-reaching implications for the country, and Democrats are determined to find a solution that benefits all Americans.
