Netanyahu urges Iranian people to ‘stand up’ after Israeli strikes

In the wake of Israel’s strikes on Iran’s nuclear and military facilities, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has made a direct appeal to the Iranian people, calling upon them to stand up against their oppressive regime. The strikes were aimed at thwarting the nuclear and missile threats posed by Iran towards Israel, weakening the regime and potentially paving the way for regime change.

Netanyahu emphasized that the Iranian regime has long oppressed its people and threatened to destroy Israel, urging the Iranian population, particularly minority groups, to seize this moment as an opportunity to rise up against their oppressors. He pointed out that minority groups make up a significant portion of the Iranian population, and if they were to unite against the regime, they could play a crucial role in bringing about its downfall.

Recent events in Iran, such as the death of Mahsa Amini, a Kurdish woman who died while in custody of Iran’s morality police, have sparked widespread protests and further fueled opposition to the regime. The brutal crackdown on protesters by the Iranian authorities has only intensified the resentment towards the regime and increased the likelihood of internal rebellion.

Yigal Carmon, President of the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI), highlighted the potential role of minority groups in bringing about regime change in Iran. He noted that groups like the Ahwazis, Kurds, and Baloch people have a history of opposing the regime and are militarily organized, making them capable of challenging the regime’s authority.

While it remains to be seen whether widespread demonstrations will erupt in Iran in response to the recent events, the possibility of a coalition of non-Persian ethnic groups toppling the regime is a real possibility. Netanyahu reiterated that Israel’s fight is not against the Iranian people but against the oppressive regime that has long deprived them of their freedom and prosperity.
