DHS saves $12 billion in 200 days under Secretary Kristi Noem leadership

EXCLUSIVE: The Department of Homeland Security has announced significant savings of $12 billion as a result of a comprehensive contract review process and other cost-cutting measures over the past 200 days.
Secretary Kristi Noem is personally overseeing the review and approval process for contracts exceeding $100,000, leading to a reduction of $10.7 billion. With over 5,000 contracts reviewed, decisions are made promptly within a day, according to DHS.
“It is shocking that career bureaucrats were previously able to unilaterally approve hundred-million-dollar contracts, resulting in significant waste, fraud, and abuse of taxpayer dollars,” stated DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin.

Noem emphasized her commitment to protecting American taxpayers amidst lobbying efforts for government contracts. She highlighted the $12 billion saved in less than seven months, equating to over $50 million per day since taking office.
The restructuring that involved eliminating career bureaucrats resulted in an additional $1.3 billion in cuts while prioritizing roles with public safety implications, as per DHS.
Notable cost reductions included discontinuing the use of Air Force reheatable coffee cups priced at nearly $1,300 each, as reported by the Air Force Times.

Recent funding allocations through the Trump-supported “One Big Beautiful Bill Act” included $165 billion for DHS. This encompassed $46.5 billion for the southern border wall, $14.4 billion for deportations, $12 billion for reimbursing states for border-related expenses, and resources for enhancing ICE and Border Patrol operations.

Noem praised President Trump’s approval of the funding bill, citing it as a victory for law enforcement and national security. She emphasized the importance of the allocated funds in upholding law and order and ensuring the safety of Americans.
