Samaritan’s Purse donates 20 ambulances to Israel following Hamas attacks

Samaritan’s Purse Steps in to Help Israel Recover from Deadly Hamas Attacks

In the aftermath of the deadly Hamas attacks that rocked Israel in October 2023, Samaritan’s Purse has made a significant contribution to the recovery efforts. The Christian relief group has generously donated 20 ambulances to Magen David Adom, Israel’s national emergency medical service, with plans for a total of 42 ambulances, 28 of which will be armored to handle potential attacks.

At a moving ceremony held outside the Tower of David in Jerusalem, Franklin Graham, the president of Samaritan’s Purse, dedicated the newest ambulance in the presence of former Governor Mike Huckabee, MDA leaders, and Israeli terror survivors. The ambulance is equipped with a mobile intensive care unit and designed to operate even under fire.

The funds for the ambulance were generously provided by Pastor Greg Laurie and his congregation at Harvest Christian Fellowship. Laurie expressed solidarity with Israel, stating, “We want to say as Christians that we stand with Israel. You’re not alone.”

During the ceremony, Franklin Graham drew a parallel between Abraham and the first responders of today, emphasizing the importance of quick action in times of crisis. He also took a moment to address three women who had suffered greatly at the hands of Hamas, including Karina Engel, whose husband was killed defending their home, and she and her daughters were kidnapped and held captive in Gaza.

Karina shared her emotional story with the attendees, revealing that a Samaritan’s Purse ambulance, dedicated in her husband’s memory, now sits near their home. She expressed how she greets her late husband every morning before work and placed a yellow ribbon on Graham’s jacket in honor of those still held hostage.

Former Governor Mike Huckabee highlighted the seriousness of the ongoing threats faced by Israel, underscoring the necessity of an armored ambulance. He commended Samaritan’s Purse, Harvest Christian Fellowship, and all those who put their lives on the line to help others in times of need.

Magen David Adom leaders praised the donation, with Director General Eli Bin emphasizing that the armored ambulance would play a crucial role in their modern defense system. Gilad Erdan, the global president of MDA, expressed gratitude to Samaritan’s Purse for their timely assistance during Israel’s hour of need.

Edward Graham, a military veteran and son of Franklin Graham, emphasized the importance of quick medical assistance in combat zones and reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to supporting Israel out of love for God. The ambulance, adorned with a Bible verse from Jeremiah 29:11, serves as a symbol of hope and peace in the midst of turmoil.

As the Jewish holiday of Shavuot marked the giving of the Torah, Samaritan’s Purse continues its work in Israel, with additional armored ambulances set to arrive by the end of the year. The organization remains dedicated to providing aid as long as there is a need, embodying the spirit of compassion and solidarity in times of crisis.
