NFL news: Shedeur Sanders’ hopes to win Browns QB job dwindling, ex-star suggests

Former NFL star wide receiver T.J. Houshmandzadeh recently shared his thoughts on the Cleveland Browns’ quarterback situation as the team prepares for training camps to open in the coming weeks. The Browns made some interesting moves in the draft by selecting Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders, adding them to a roster that already includes Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett. With multiple talented quarterbacks on the roster, it is unclear who will emerge as the frontrunner for the starting job. However, Houshmandzadeh highlighted two players he believes are currently leading the competition.
During a recent appearance on “Nightcap,” Houshmandzadeh revealed, “I was told from somebody that is in the building that ain’t a player, it’s really coming down to Kenny Pickett or Dillon Gabriel.” He also raised questions about Shedeur Sanders’ performance, questioning whether his impressive stats were against the starters or lesser competition.
While Flacco has had success with the Browns in the past, it remains to be seen if he is the long-term solution for the team. Pickett, who served as a backup for the Philadelphia Eagles last season, previously started games for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2022 and 2023. Gabriel, known for his standout performances at Oregon and other teams, was drafted by the Browns for his potential. Sanders, on the other hand, faced a draft slide before being selected by Cleveland, and has already encountered legal issues since joining the team.
As the Browns gear up for the upcoming season, there are still many decisions to be made before they face off against the Bengals. Fans will have to wait and see which quarterback emerges as the starter and leads the team to success on the field.
