Nova Scotia couple holds spicy record
Meet Mike Jack: The Spicy Champion of Stellarton, N.S.
Mike Jack, hailing from Stellarton, N.S., is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to eating foods that most people find too hot to handle. With an impressive 18 Guinness World Records under his belt, Mike is truly a spicy sensation.
“The craziest record that I have is for the fastest time to eat 100 Carolina Reaper peppers,” Mike proudly shared. “I have records for eating a hundred ghost peppers, 50 Carolina Reaper peppers, 25 Carolina Reaper peppers, most ghost peppers eaten in two minutes, and a variety of other spicy challenges.”
But Mike’s accomplishments don’t stop there. He is also the reigning, four-time champion of the League of Fire Chilli Eating Championship. This competitive event pits players against each other in intense chilli-eating matches, akin to prizefights.
League of Fire originated with the World Title Chilli-Eating match at the 2019 Guildford Cheese and Chilli Festival in England. It has since evolved to include multiple belts and a global ranking system that rewards players for their participation in chilli-eating challenges.
Mike’s journey to becoming a world champion started back in college when he developed an interest in hot sauce. Starting with milder options like Frank’s and Tabasco, he gradually built up his tolerance to handle the hottest peppers.
Aside from physical training, Mike also practices Buddhist breathing meditations to calm his nerves before matches. And he’s not alone in his spicy endeavors – his wife Jamie serves as his dedicated coach, standing by his side during competitions.
Together, Mike and Jamie even hold a Guinness World Record for the longest habanero kiss, where they each ate a habanero pepper and shared a spicy smooch for 15 minutes.
Turning their passion for spice into a business, the couple has created their own signature hot sauce line featuring flavors like Taco Tuesday, Rise and Shine, and Tropical Fury – the hottest sauce made with pineapple, ghost pepper, and habanero.
With their fiery spirit and competitive drive, Mike and Jamie Jack are truly a dynamic duo in the world of spicy challenges. Stay tuned for more updates on their spicy adventures!
