NYC and DC on high alert after U.S. airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites
Authorities in New York and Washington are on high alert following U.S. airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear sites on Saturday night. The NYPD and Metropolitan Police Department have both ramped up security measures in response to the escalating situation in Iran.
The NYPD announced on social media that they are deploying additional resources to religious, cultural, and diplomatic sites across New York City. The Metropolitan Police Department released a similar statement, stating that they are actively coordinating with local, state, and federal law enforcement partners to monitor intelligence and safeguard residents in Washington, D.C.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass also took to social media to assure residents that there are no known credible threats at this time, but out of caution, LAPD is increasing patrols near places of worship and sensitive sites. The city is closely monitoring any potential threats to public safety.
Former NYPD Inspector and Fox News contributor, Paul Mauro, emphasized the importance of monitoring online chatter from potentially dangerous individuals. He mentioned that authorities will be closely monitoring online activity and will be increasing patrols at locations with connections to the conflict.
Mauro also mentioned that authorities will liaise with communities that may be impacted by the conflict and will deploy special attention patrol cars at specific locations. Additionally, they may utilize ‘HOW’ cars, which are marked vehicles parked in front of houses of worship for added security.
In addition to increased patrols and monitoring online activity, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will be on high alert at borders and airports, closely monitoring individuals entering the country. The authorities are taking proactive measures to ensure the safety and security of residents and visitors in light of the escalating situation in Iran.
