Harvey Weinstein hospitalized after blood test: attorney

Harvey Weinstein Hospitalized After Alarming Blood Test Results

NEW YORK –

Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced movie mogul, was rushed to Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan on Monday following an urgent medical issue revealed by a concerning blood test, according to his attorney Imran Ansari. The 72-year-old Weinstein is expected to remain hospitalized until his condition stabilizes.

Ansari stated, “His deprivation of care is not only medical malpractice, but a violation of his constitutional rights.” This comes just days after Weinstein filed a legal claim alleging inadequate medical treatment at the notorious Rikers Island jail complex in New York City.

The New York City Department of Correction has not yet responded to inquiries regarding Weinstein’s hospitalization. Records show that Weinstein was transferred from Rikers Island to the Bellevue Hospital Prison Ward in Manhattan.

Weinstein has been in city custody since earlier this year after his 2020 rape conviction was overturned by the New York Court of Appeals. The case is scheduled for retrial in 2025, and Weinstein maintains his innocence.

Last week, Weinstein’s legal team accused the city of providing substandard medical care for his various health issues, including chronic myeloid leukemia and diabetes. Ansari described the conditions at Rikers Island as unsanitary and likened the facility to a “gulag.”

Rikers Island has been under increased scrutiny for its mistreatment of inmates and unsafe environment. A federal judge recently ruled that the city had put incarcerated individuals in “unconstitutional danger,” potentially paving the way for federal intervention in the jail system.

Juda Engelmayer, Weinstein’s publicist, echoed the concerns about his client’s medical treatment, stating, “This mistreatment constitutes cruel and unusual punishment for someone in his medical state.”
