OPP asking people in Caledon area to shelter in place in response to incident with potentially armed people

Shelter in Place Order Issued by Ontario Provincial Police in Caledon Area

Ontario Provincial Police are urging residents along parts of Highway 9 in the Caledon area to shelter in place on Saturday morning due to “an incident in the area involving some potentially armed individuals.”

The affected area includes Highway 9 between The Gore Road, Patterson Side Road, Finnerty Street, and Humber Station Road in Caledon, according to a news release from the OPP. Residents outside of this area are advised to avoid traveling there until further notice.

Details about the incident prompting the shelter-in-place request have not been disclosed by police at this time.

Guidelines for Residents in the Affected Area:

  • If you are outside, seek shelter immediately in a secure location.
  • If you are already indoors, stay inside, lock all doors and windows.
  • If you come across the suspect, do not engage or approach them. Call 911 immediately to notify the police.
  • If possible, close your curtains to avoid drawing attention to yourself.
  • If driving, proceed to your destination without making unnecessary stops. Once there, enter and lock your doors.
  • Avoid interacting with anyone suspicious.
  • Follow all instructions given by law enforcement officers on the scene.
