Ottawa will host the 2025 World Junior Hockey Championships
The city of Ottawa will host the 2025 World Junior Hockey Championships.
Hockey Canada has announced that the tournament will be held from December 26, 2024 to January 5, 2025 at Canadian Tire Center and TD Place.
“Ottawa is the perfect venue to host the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship,” Mayor Mark Sutcliffe said in a statement. “Our love for hockey is unparalleled. You just have to see how the city stands behind each of our teams, whether it’s minor hockey, junior hockey with our outstanding Ottawa 67s, or top-level hockey with the Senators.”
Hockey Canada says Canadian Tire Center will be the main venue for the tournament, playing 17 games, including the semi-finals and the bronze and gold medal games. Fourteen matches are held at TD Place.
“We look forward to the return of the IIHF World Junior Championship to Canada in 2025,” said Luc Tardif, president of the International Ice Hockey Federation, in a statement.
“There is no doubt that the people of Ottawa care about hockey, as we saw at the 2009 IIHF World Junior Championship, where there was an extraordinary atmosphere. The World Juniors is a highly anticipated event that occupies a unique place in the calendar, in the midst of the holiday season.”
Ottawa also hosted the 2009 World Junior Hockey Championship in Ottawa.
Hockey Canada says the 2009 tournament in Ottawa generated $80 million in economic impact in Ontario, with more than 450,000 fans attending the tournament.
