After stints in U.S. and Iceland, Leah Pais stoked to be back home with AFC Toronto

Leah Pais, a 22-year-old midfielder/forward from Mississauga, has recently signed with AFC Toronto in the new Northern Super League franchise. After playing soccer at three U.S. colleges and professionally in Iceland, Pais was eager to come back home to Canada. She expressed how difficult it was to miss out on important family moments like birthdays, holidays, and special occasions while playing overseas.

Pais mentioned in an interview, “Missing out on the memories, it’s not easy for people.” She was thrilled at the opportunity to play in front of her family and friends again, creating new memories while pursuing her passion for soccer. In addition to reuniting with her loved ones, Pais was drawn to the new league’s potential to pave the way for future generations of female soccer players in Canada.

With an impressive resume that includes winning the NCAA title with Florida State and earning accolades at the University of New York at Albany and the University of Pittsburgh, Pais is a seasoned player with a diverse skill set. She has experience playing in various positions on the field, from fullback to striker, and is comfortable in the attacking midfielder or wing positions with AFC Toronto.

During her time in Iceland playing for Throttur Reykjavik FC, Pais faced off against veteran Canadian goalkeeper Erin McLeod, showcasing her talent and determination on the pitch. She also excelled in making an impact off the bench during her collegiate career, demonstrating her versatility and adaptability as a player.

Pais graduated from Pitt with a degree in psychology and a minor in criminal justice, highlighting her commitment to both academics and athletics. Toronto coach Marko Milanovic praised Pais for her determination, competitiveness, and never-say-die attitude, emphasizing her potential as a key player for AFC Toronto in the upcoming season.
