Pete’s Frootique workers ratify first collective agreement with Sobeys

Pete’s Frootique workers in Halifax have ratified their first collective agreement with their parent company, Sobeys.

The nearly 100 workers are represented by Service Employees International Union Local 2, and had been on strike since Nov. 18.

The union local released a statement saying details about the agreement reached Friday would be available in the coming days and thanked “allies and community members for all the incredible support the workers received during the strike.”

The workers had rejected Sobeys original offer of a pay increase of five cents above minumum wage. Up until Friday’s agreement the union had two major demands: paid sick days and a reasonable pay increase.
