Phillies’ Bryce Harper pulls off gender reveal with custom bat

Bryce Harper, outfielder for the Philadelphia Phillies, made a special announcement on Monday during a major league game. Harper, who is expecting his fourth child later this year, decided to bring the gender reveal to the field in a unique way.

Typically, pink and blue bats are reserved for Mother’s and Father’s Day in the major leagues, but Harper wanted to share this special moment with his teammates and fans. He ordered two bats, one pink and one blue, and asked his teammate, shortstop Trea Turner, to break the big news.

Turner, who was initially confused by Harper’s request, decided to have a little fun with the reveal. He picked up the pink bat and swung it around, tricking Harper into thinking he was having a girl. But when Harper came to the plate with a blue bat, it was clear that he was expecting a boy.

“He was pretty happy,” Turner said after the game. “He was nice enough to ask me to do it, and I thought it was a nice moment for him and his family. Pretty cool, pretty special day.”

Harper and Turner have a history together, having been teammates in Washington, D.C. with the Nationals before Harper joined the Phillies. Turner signed a lucrative 11-year, $300 million deal with the Nationals in 2023 after a brief stint with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Despite the exciting gender reveal, Harper struck out in his at-bat, and the Phillies went on to lose to the San Francisco Giants. However, the special moment shared between Harper, Turner, and the rest of the team made the day memorable for everyone involved.
