Phillies -World Zack Wheeler on an injured list of blood clot in the right arm

The Philadelphia Phillies placed Ace Zack Wheeler on the 15-day wounded list of a blood clot in his right arm on Saturday.
Dave Dombrowski, the president of the team’s baseball activities, said after the Washington Nationals of the Birth Test on Saturday that Wheeler had been diagnosed with a “Right upper extremity blood clot”.
“There is not much that we can say about it at the moment,” said Dombrowski, who praised doctors for finding the clot. “It could have been a much more difficult situation than it is.”
Phillie’s head of athletic trainer Paul Buchheit said that Wheeler had felt better after a right shoulder pain made sure that he returned a start earlier this month. But that changed Friday.
“He felt a little gravity,” Buchheit said. “So the doctors here were great at helping to diagnose and accelerate that diagnosis this morning.”
Buchheit said he didn’t think that the current state of Wheeler had anything to do with his earlier stiffness. He said there is a wide range of treatments available, but refused to get into details.
Dombrowski said that Wheeler would be further evaluated in Philadelphia.
Wheeler threw East leaders on Friday before the National League and was limited to five innings for the second consecutive start. The right -handed was two runs and four hits in Washington.
‘Scary situation’
The 35-year-old Wheeler, who made his third All-Star team last month, is 10-5 with an average of 2.71 earned run in 24 Starts this season. He has a Major League-High 195 Strikeouts in 149 2/3 innings. He threw at least 192 innings in three of the previous four seasons.
Phillies Slugger Kyle Schwarber said it was the most important thing to get Wheeler healthy.
“It’s a scary situation, right? … just wants to get him back here and hear from him,” said Schwarber. ‘Hopefully it won’t be too serious. Get it here and let him get healthy.
“You know, baseball is baseball, and when it comes to someone’s health, we first need him healthy. You know, he has a family, so we want him to get a good feeling for them and get him speed again when we can.”
The Phillies activate right -handed Aaron Nola of the injured list to start against the Nationals on Sunday. Philadelphia was planning to go to a six-man rotation with the return of Nola, but will stay instead with a conventional five-man approach.
“Because we add Nola tomorrow, everyone gets a kind of extra day,” said Rob Thomson manager. “Then we have a day off [Thursday]And we get an extra day. We are in good condition and that is why you have depth. “
“We don’t know the timeline,” said Thomson. “I think a lot about Zack and his family, because it is not a hamstring injury or something. But I feel good about the depth we have. If we have to go to a sixth, it could be [prospect Andrew] Painter. It can be someone else. We just have to continue. “
