Police advising residents of high-risk offender living in Halifax area

HALIFAX, N.S. — Police in Halifax are advising residents that a high-risk offender is now living in the region after finishing his sentence.

Halifax Regional Police said 49-year-old Gamon Jay Leacock was released from a correctional facility after completing a sentence for nine counts of robbery, two counts of sexual assault with a weapon, two counts of forcible confinement, two counts of administering a noxious thing and six counts of uttering threats.

Leacock also served time for criminal harassment, escaping lawful custody, assault, assault a peace officer with a weapon, theft under $5,000, failure to comply, failure to stop at a motor vehicle accident and intimidation of justice participant.

Releasing the information is in accordance with Nova Scotia Release of High-Risk Offender information protocol and is not meant to encourage negative or unreasonable behaviour.
