Police are seeking information about Dartmouth’s 2003 murder

Sunday marks the 20th anniversary of William Allan MacDonald’s murder in his Dartmouth apartment, and police are continuing to investigate the case.

The Halifax Regional Police Department received a report of a suspicious death at an apartment on Jackson Road at approximately 10:50 p.m. on July 9, 2023. Officers found 62-year-old MacDonald dead in his home.

“Investigators believe there are people who have information that could help solve William’s murder,” an HRP press release said.

“We hope the passage of time will encourage them to do the right thing and come forward with what they know. It is never too late to come forward, and the tiniest piece of information may be just what is needed to move the investigation forward.”

Investigators are asking anyone with information about MacDonald’s murder to contact police at 490-5016 or provide an anonymous tip to Nova Scotia Crime Stoppers.

The case is part of the county’s Major Unsolved Crime Rewards program, which offers up to $150,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of individuals responsible for certain crimes.

Callers must contact the rewards program at 1-888-710-9090, provide their name and contact information, and may be called to testify in court. All calls are recorded. The amount of the award is based on the research value of the information provided.
