Police charge 6th youth in relation to bomb threats at Halifax-area schools

Police have charged a male youth in relation to a bomb threat that was made at a Halifax-area school in May.

In a news release, Nova Scotia RCMP said this charge is connected to a bomb threat at Lockview High School in Fall River, N.S., on May 9. It said a “threatening message” was written in a bathroom stall at the school.

The bomb threat was just one in a series of unfounded incidents at local schools over a six-week period beginning on April 1. 

Police would not provide an age for the youth who was charged, only that he was “a male youth from Wellington.” They said he was “identified as being involved in the threats.”

The youth was “safely arrested and later released” on June 26 after going to the Halifax Regional Police/RCMP integrated criminal investigation division office in Dartmouth.

He was charged with uttering threats and mischief, police said. He is scheduled to appear in Halifax youth justice court on July 18 at 9:30 a.m.

Nova Scotia RCMP said this is the only youth that they have charged with making a bomb threat in the Halifax area since April 1, 2024.

Halifax Regional Police also charged five teens in the same period, including:

• A 13-year-old youth in relation to a bomb threat made at Fairview Junior High on May 1.
• A 16-year-old youth in relation to a bomb threat made at Citadel High on May 2.
• A 13-year-old youth in relation to a bomb threat made at Rocky Lake Jr. High on May 3.
• A 15-year-old youth in relation to a bomb threat made at J.L. Ilsley High on May 7.
• A 16-year-old youth in relation to a bomb threat made at J.L. Ilsley High on May 7.
