Police search for Alberta woman wrongfully released from a jail on fake papers

An Alberta woman, Mackenzie Dawn Hardy, is currently on the run after allegedly being wrongfully released from an Edmonton-area jail last month with fake release papers. Hardy, who is 24 years old, is facing several charges including possession of stolen property, impaired driving, flight from police, and driving without insurance or registration. She was initially arrested in March by Red Deer RCMP.
The Alberta Crown Prosecution Service revealed that Hardy was released from custody after staff at the Fort Saskatchewan Correctional Centre were presented with documents claiming that her charges had been stayed. However, it was later discovered that these papers were fraudulent. Michelle Davio, a spokesperson for the service, stated that as soon as they became aware of the situation, they sought a warrant for Hardy’s arrest and reported the use of fake documents to the RCMP for investigation. Measures have been taken to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
RCMP Cpl. Troy Savinkoff disclosed that Hardy was released in late April, and law enforcement was informed a few days later. A province-wide warrant has been issued for her arrest, with efforts being made to extend it nationwide. Despite this, the public was not alerted to her release as she is not considered a threat to public safety.
Hardy has taken to social media platform TikTok to taunt law enforcement and deny the authenticity of the fake papers. In one video, she defiantly states, “So, the government’s f—d and I’m an escaped inmate right now.” She also claims that her release was a “gift from God” as her boyfriend was given a year to live after being diagnosed with cancer.
Despite the encouragement from social media users to surrender, Hardy insists that she is not evading justice but rather running towards life before it slips away. Savinkoff believes that her arrest is inevitable and warns that her behavior on social media could be used against her in court, describing it as self-destructive and lacking intelligence.
As the search for Mackenzie Dawn Hardy continues, authorities remain vigilant in their efforts to bring her to justice. Her brazen actions and social media posts may ultimately work against her as she faces the consequences of her alleged crimes.
