Police use DNA to tie 83-year-old man to 40-year-old cold case murder

Police have made a significant breakthrough in a cold case murder investigation from over 40 years ago, leading to the arrest of an 83-year-old man in Dallas. Willie Jones was taken into custody on Jan. 16 for a parole violation related to a sexual assault. While in custody, a DNA sample was collected and confirmed to be linked to a murder that occurred in 1981.
The victim, an elderly woman named Virginia White, was found dead inside her home in Dallas. At the time of the alleged murder, Jones was 40 years old, while White was 81. The arrest of Jones has brought some closure to the family of the victim, as detectives worked tirelessly to solve the case.
Jones is not currently a suspect in any other homicide investigations. Prior to his arrest, he was wanted on multiple warrants in Dallas County. The motive for the murder and further details surrounding White’s death have not been released by officials.
Jones is facing charges for capital murder and is currently being held in the Dallas County Jail. His bond amount has not been set at this time. This arrest serves as a reminder of the importance of DNA evidence and the tireless efforts of law enforcement in solving cold cases.
