Regina General Hospital is temporarily closing one intensive care bed

REGINA – A hospital in Saskatchewan’s capital temporarily closes one of its beds in its medical intensive care unit after months of staff shortages.

A leaked memo from the Saskatchewan Health Authority, released by the opposition NDP, says the bed at Regina General Hospital will be closed until early September.

The memo says the personnel shortage has made it difficult to man the unit.

It says the hospital has instead relied on contracts for staff, but several have been canceled at the last minute.

The memo says it expects to find staff replacements later this summer so that the bed can reopen on September 5.

The Saskatchewan Party government says it has hired more health workers to address wait times and other issues in the system.
