Safety advisory lifted after sewage spill in Halifax’s Northwest Arm
HALIFAX, N.S. — Halifax Water has lifted an advisory warning people and pets to stay out of the water in Halifax’s Northwest Arm.
The utility issued the advisory on Thursday, Aug. 17, after untreated sewage began flowing into the water. A wastewater system backup caused the issue.
The sewage was diverted later the same evening.

In a release on Tuesday, Aug. 22, Halifax Water said the issue has been repaired and that the recommendation that people and pets avoid the water is no longer in effect.
The utility said it has continued to provide updates to the proper federal, provincial and municipal entities about the incident.
