Trump’s response to LA riots ‘endangers the very bedrock of our democracy,’ Schumer warns

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer recently criticized President Donald Trump for his administration’s response to the Los Angeles illegal immigration riots, warning that American democracy is in jeopardy. Schumer, a Democrat from New York, expressed his disapproval of the violence and chaos that has erupted during the riots, stating that such behavior should never be tolerated.

Schumer’s comments came in response to remarks made by Sen. John Fetterman, a Democrat from Pennsylvania, who had called out his party for failing to condemn the violent actions taking place during the riots. Schumer emphasized the importance of upholding the law and prosecuting those who engage in violence or criminal behavior.

The Senate Minority Leader also took aim at Trump’s decision to federalize the California National Guard and deploy Marines from Twentynine Palms, California to quell the unrest. Schumer condemned the use of American troops against American citizens, describing it as dangerous and provocative, and a threat to the foundations of democracy.

In contrast, Sen. Roger Wicker, a Republican from Mississippi, expressed a different perspective on the situation, stating that in a crisis like this, it is important to have all the help available. Wicker praised the efforts of local officials in handling the situation and criticized Governor Gavin Newsom for potentially making a political mistake in his response to the riots.

Newsom, however, defended his actions and challenged border czar Thomas Homan to arrest him during an interview on MSNBC. The White House also weighed in on the situation, with spokeswoman Abigail Jackson accusing Governor Newsom of enabling violent rioters and praising President Trump for stepping in to protect law enforcement officers.
