MP-elect Corey Hogan hoped for more Liberals in Calgary

Calgary Liberal MP Corey Hogan Eager to Serve After Election Win

Corey Hogan woke up the day after winning the only Liberal seat in Calgary feeling bleary-eyed and a little nervous. As a replacement candidate in Calgary Confederation, Hogan admitted to feeling like a “deer in the headlights” as he navigates his new role as a member of Parliament.

Having been brought into the campaign after the previous candidate was removed from the ballot, Hogan, a lifelong Liberal with an extensive background in the oil and gas sector, is no stranger to politics. His experience as a deputy minister under former premiers Rachel Notley and Jason Kenney, along with his current role at the University of Calgary, has prepared him for the challenges ahead.

Despite being the only Liberal elected in Calgary, Hogan remains optimistic about the party’s growing popularity in the province. With the Liberal popular vote increasing to 27 per cent, he believes there is a shift happening beneath the surface.

Political science professor Lori Williams of Mount Royal University sees great potential in Hogan, suggesting he could be offered a cabinet position by Prime Minister Mark Carney. With his strategic insights and Alberta roots, Hogan could play a vital role in bridging the gap between the federal government and the province.

While 34 out of the 37 Albertans elected to Parliament represent the Conservative party, Hogan is determined to be a strong voice for Calgary Confederation. He is focused on serving his constituents to the best of his ability and is not actively lobbying for a cabinet position.

As Hogan settles into his new role, he is looking forward to representing the interests of Calgarians and working with the incoming government to further Alberta’s interests. While no Liberal has ever been re-elected in Calgary, Hogan is determined to defy the odds and make a meaningful impact in Ottawa.

With a mix of excitement and determination, Hogan is ready to roll up his sleeves and get to work. Whether he is called to serve in cabinet or not, his priority remains being a dedicated and effective MP for Calgary Confederation.
