Nova Scotia police watchdog to investigate deadly Hammonds Plains crash
The Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) will be investigating a fatal crash where a 22-year-old man was killed on Monday.

Nova Scotia’s Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) will be investigating a deadly crash that happened after police attempted to stop a vehicle in Hammonds Plains on Monday evening.
According to the RCMP, at around 7:05 p.m., they were trying to conduct a traffic stop on a black GMC pickup truck in the 1800 block of Hammonds Plains Road “in relation to ongoing investigations by Halifax Regional Police and RCMP.”
The truck sped off and turned onto Glen Arbour Way. Not long after, the same truck crashed on Glen Arbour Way near Sky Crescent. Police say the truck left the road, hit a power pole and ended up in a ditch.
The driver of the truck, a 22-year-old man from Bedford, was found outside of the truck and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Glen Arbour Way was closed for several hours, but has since reopened.
Police have handed the investigation over to SIRT, a group that independently investigates all serious incidents that come from action of police in Nova Scotia regardless of if there is an allegation of wrongdoing.
